Bomb Hoax at Empire Mall In Mangalore |

After a caller informed that a bomb had been planted in the local Empire Mall on the night of Wednesday December 3, the policemen conducted detailed inspection of the entire building.
At around 9 pm on Wednesday, a hoax call was received at a Kannada daily office located in Manipal. An unanimous caller who spoke in Hindi, informed the paper that a bomb had been planted in the said mall located on M G Road here. After saying that the mall would turn into rubble in a few minutes, the caller severed connection. This information was passed on to the Udupi police, who in turn, kept Mangalore police informed of the call. |

Noted film Director and Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner Shyam Benegal today dedicated the dream project of Mandd Sobhann “Kalaangann” – the Konkani heritage centre, to the Konkani World in a glittering ceremony held at the Kalaangann grounds in Shaktinagar. Speaking on the occasion Mr Benegal compared the diversity of Konkani to the diversity of India and said “In many ways Konkani represents mini India which is diverse and distinct”. He stressed the importance of setting up a research wing at Kalaangann to keep the Konkani language alive and thriving. |

Karnataka ready to deal any terror attacks: DGP |

In the wake of recent terror attacks in Mumbai, the Karnataka Police has upgraded its security system to deal with any such attacks and the state security forces are "well-prepared" to handle any crisis, a senior police officer said.
"Right now there are four platoons, comprising 120 commandos readily available for the state's security. These commandos are well-equipped with necessary weapons including AK-47s, sten guns and also bullet-proof jackets," State Director General of Police R Sreekumar told media after inspecting the drill by commandos belonging to KSRP (Karnataka State Reserve Police). |

Karnataka mourns V P Singh's death |

Karnataka Government on Thursday declared three-day mourning as a mark of respect to former Prime Minister V P Singh who passed away in Delhi on Thursday.
Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa will be deputing Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai to attend the funeral ceremony of Singh as the state's representative, an official release said here.
Yeddyurappa has expressed grief at the death of Singh, whom he described as an eminent personality and a popular leader.
Opposition Congress leader in the state assembly M Mallikarjun Kharge, former deputy chief minister Siddaramaiah, former minister Dr G Parameshwara and state unit Congress Working President D K Shivakumar have also condoled the death. |

Court Extends Judicial Custody of Terror Suspects |

The court on Monday November 24, extended the judicial custody of four terror suspects held in the sub-jail. The court rejected the request for police custody on the basis of the Supreme Court (SC) judgement that the accused cannot be awarded to police custody after the lapse of 15 days.
The police are contemplating an appeal on this ruling. Terror suspects Mohammed Ali and Javed Ali both residents of Mukkaccheri, Noushad, resident of Subash Nagar, and Ahmed Bava, resident of Haleyangady, were arrested by city police on October 3. Mumbai police took them to metro to investigate their terror links and brought them back to the sub-jail here on Thursday November 20. |
