CM says sorry to Deshpande, Jalappa
Friday, 16 July 2010
ImageChief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Thursday tendered an apology to senior Congress leader R L Jalappa and KPCC president R V Deshpande, whom he had accused of indulging in mining activities during his reply in the Legislative Council on Monday.

He also apologised to people of the state for approving Bills without discussion.

The CM’s apology comes a day after Jalappa, a former union minister, threatened to file a defamation suit and Deshpande dared Yeddyurappa to make same charges outside the legislature. Speaking to reporters, the CM said that he was “misled by officers and had no intention of hurting anyone.” Meanwhile, Congress and JD (S) slammed Yeddyurappa for saying that he was misled by officials over the involvement of certain political leaders in the illegal mining issue.

At a press conference on Thursday, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah and JD (S) state president H D Kumaraswamy said, “It is a matter of shame for the CM to say that he would apologise for having erred in mentioning names of a few political leaders of being involved in illegal mining.’’

Refusing to join issue with Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray who wrote about it in an editorial in his party mouthpiece 'Saamana', Yeddyurappa assured him that Marathi- speaking people in Karnataka would face no problems.
