The Congress leaders, who are on a padayatra for the past nine days against illegal mining, are now a worried lot on what next to maintain the tempo and not just about walking 100 more km in the remaining six days.
The senior leaders are concerned as the young MLAs, the strength behind the padayatra, want plans to keep the tempo going even after the rally concludes on August 9.
The Congress is not hopeful of taking the illegal mining issue to its logical end and is not confident that the state government will order a CBI probe. So, it has planned to chalk out plans of a stir against the government. The Congress leadership, including Leader of the Assembly Siddaramaiah, KPCC chief R V Deshpande and others held an emergency meeting of the Congress Legislature Party to discuss BJP state chief KS Eshwarappa’s invitation to non-Congress parties to come together in the state, possible alliance between BJP and JD(S), the proposed JD(S) yatra and the strategy to attack BJP. |

In yet another step towards banning the export of iron ore in order to curb illegal mining, Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa on Wednesday said that even the movement and transportation of iron ore from one place to another within the state will be banned with immediate effect.
“Iron ore can be mined and transported if it is meant only for domestic use, (value adding process) for setting up steel plants and for power generation units. Otherwise, the ore cannot be transported at all from one place to another. We have already banned export and this move will further tighten the noose around illegal miners,” the CM said.
About the statement made by Congress leader Anil Lad that he was contemplating challenging the government’s order to ban ore export, he said he was not unduly worried about somebody approaching the judiciary. “We will respond appropriately as and when the High Court asks for explanation,” he said. |
