At a time when the JDS state president, Kumaraswami, has been claiming that both the BJP factions have been in touch with him, and that the JDS is not interested in getting involved with the internal feud of the BJP, there are indications that Chief Minister (CM) Yeddyurappa has got an assurance from the party of its support in case some of the dissidents decide to part ways with the CM. The JDS, it is believed, will extend outside support to Yeddyurappa, to escape for being branded ‘power-hungry’.
Reliable sources said that Yeddyurappa has decided to stabilize the government with the support of the JDS, if the dissidents remain adamant in their stance and go against the high command decision by threatening to resign en masse. JDS MP, N Cheluvarayaswamy, MLAs Jamir Ahmed and Balakrishna, have already held consultations with the BJP faction led by Yeddyurappa.
Sources said that Yeddyurappa already has held a few rounds of discussions with Kumaraswami and that the JDS state president has assured the Chief Minister of extending help to stay afloat. This appears to be more of a deal between people having common enemies, rather than any personal camaraderie. Kumaraswami has scores to settle against Janardan Reddy, who had kicked up a row over the former’s reported demand for payment of higer bribes per truckload of ore. |

Efforts of BJP and Rashtriya Swayamasevak Sangh (RSS) leaders to end the stand-off between Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and Reddy brothers failed to yield any result on Thursday with Reddys sticking to their ‘‘change Yeddyurappa’’ stand.
They were not only unrelenting, but also tried to give an impression that other MLAs too were unhappy with Yeddyurappa by asking the party leadership to elicit individual opinions on the conduct of the CM before taking any decision.
Speaker Jagadish Shettar, who is being “wooed’’ by both the camps, is also said to have expressed the same view to the party high command while refusing the offer from CM to make him minister or the deputy CM.
“Let them take individual opinions of MLAs. It is not an issue between the CM and Reddy brothers.
It is the issue of the party,’’ Karunakara Reddy told reporters, after talks with RSS leaders.
Reddy is said to have told RSS leaders that their aim was to restore the pride of the party and they would not go back as the CM had failed to mend his ways despite several warnings. |

The deadlock between Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and the mining tycoons Reddy brothers of Bellary continued on Wednesday, with the latter going ahead with the foundation stone-laying programme for the construction of houses for the flood victims in north Karnataka.
The programme was held in Bellary in the absence of the CM, who had earlier stated that this should be a state government initiative and not one by the Reddy brothers, who have decided to construct the houses at an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore.
The Reddy brothers had stated that they would bear the expenses and they did not need the state government's assistance.
All through Tuesday, the CM made several attempts to patch up things. However, his efforts failed with the Reddy brothers announcing that they would go ahead with the programme in Bellary without the CM. |
