After 72 hours of the Air India Express Boeing 737-800 crash in Mangalore that claimed 158 lives, the Digital Flight Data Recorder or the "Black Box" has been the found on Tuesday.
"We have recovered the Digital Flight Data Recorder, the main body is intact," said a DGCA official.
The black box can give important information about what could have caused the plane to crash as it records all the control settings and flight parameters including velocity and altitude. The flight data recorder records all the control settings.
The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had late on Sunday began investigating the crash of the Air India Express Boeing 737-800 (VT-AXV) after the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and a part of the black box containing the digital flight data acquisition unit (DFDAU) were handed over to it by the search party.
"The aircraft's CVR has been recovered. Though affected by fire, it is expected to yield the desired information," the regulator said in a statement here. |

As many as 90,000 farmers have switched to organic farming.

By 2013-14, the electricity supply in Karnataka will exceed demand, said Principal Secretary for Energy, K Jairaj. “By 2013-14, as the intended projects are accomplished, the situation in the state will be such that the supply will overlap the demand. It is estimated that the supply will be 14,383 MW and the demand will be 13,531 MW,” Jairaj said. He was speaking in a public lecture series here on Thursday.
He said that at present, the supply was around 20 per cent less than the demand. He said the capacity addition over the years has been quite low as some big projects were shelved due to opposition. This, he said, was why the state was not able to provide uninterrupted power.
On the Chhattisgarh power project, Jairaj said one unit of 800 MW capacity would be commissioned by November this year. The whole project will be completed by 2013-14, he added. He emphasised that getting power through 400 KV lines from Chhattisgarh was cheaper than producing electricity here by bringing coal. He informed that the power generated there would be sold here at Rs 2 per unit. |
