Best film features Tulu culture |
Wednesday, 11 June 2008 |
Anand P Raj, director of Koti Chennayya, which bagged the first ever National Award for Best Feature Film in Tulu, was overwhelmed. He said:
"The award has brought me immense joy because I made this film to break my image as commercial film maker. The film was inspired by two historical characters of Coastal Karnataka - Koti and Channayya - the twin brothers and their fight against three Samanta kings, and against discrimination meted out to dalits. Right from characterisation and depiction of various incidents, the film looks very realistic and special. It showcases the culture of Tulu Nadu."
Anand, a native of Mandya district, has directed 17 Kannada pictures, his debut being Shivarajkumar starrer, Gajanuru Gandu. Interestingly, Koti Chennayya, produced by R Dhanaraj of Mangalore, had missed the 2007 State Film Award to another film Tulu film Badi. Anand remembered the contribution of Mr Bhojraj Suvarna for the success of the movie. |
