1,136 vacancies in police dept: CM Print E-mail
Wednesday, 28 April 2010
Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa on Monday assured that over 1,000 vacancies in the police department will be filled this year.

Addressing the Karnataka Police Investiture Ceremony 2010, where 55 policemen were awarded medals for meritorious service, Yeddyurappa said that 1136 vacancies in the police department would be filled this year.

He said promotion for 968 police constables and 290 head constables, for the position of head constables and assistant sub-inspectors respectively was on the cards.

Talking about establishing new police stations in the state, Yeddyurappa said the government would soon establish seven new stations in Ramnagaram, Tumkur, Chitradurga and Bellary districts and also convert 10 police outposts to regular police stations.

Home Minister VS Acharya said, anti-naxal force would be strengthened in naxal-infested districts of the state and that 4331 houses for police personnel will also be built this year.

Stressing on the need for police reforms and bifurcation of law and order and investigation agencies, Governor HR Bhardwaj said he was concerned about the state of police reforms in the country, which needs thorough investigation.

He also said that there was an urgent need for a Mobile Commando Task force to thwart internal and external emergencies.
