Maoists’ latest demand: Higher salary for cops Print E-mail
Wednesday, 10 March 2010
ImageWhile one may think that the only way a Maoist would like to see a policeman is through the sight of a gun, the Maoists in Karnataka think that a bit of sympathy for the foe in Khaki may help them in the long run.

Maoists in Karnataka are reportedly developing a ‘soft corner’ towards police constables in a strategic move to divide the police cadre.

According a senior IPS official, Maoists are discussing the problems of police constables demanding that they be given the facilities that their seniors enjoy. The ultras seek higher salaries and better financial status for constables on par with their higher-ups.

“Naxals believe that the strategy will result in the police constables ‘reciprocating’ their ‘soft corner’ and that they can avoid fatal encounters,” the IPS official said. The officer says that there is proof of Maoists discussing the problems of constables as part of their strategy.

V-Day is not about love; it's just about lust: Muthalik Print E-mail
Wednesday, 10 February 2010
ImageWhen one speaks of Valentine's Day, the immediate thought that comes to mind is the mindless ruckus that was caused in Karnataka last year on the issue.

It started off with an assault on women at a pub in Mangalore which then spiralled into violence over Valentine's Day celebrations.

The Sri Ram Sene in Karnataka was blamed for the violence and its activists had openly proclaimed that they were not in favour of people celebrating Valentine's Day.

Their aggression was countered with a strange campaign, called the 'pink chaddi' campaign, in which some women sent pink-coloured undergarments to every member of the Ram Sene.

As Valentine's Day approaches this year, the government in Karnataka is making all arrangements to ensure that the celebrations are not disrupted.
