Friday, 25 July 2008
ImageKarnataka is also not much better off as it continues to wait for the rain.

The rain is playing havoc with Karnataka this year. They started early, and then seemed to stop for a while. And while parts of Bangalore are flooding, north Karnataka is parched and waiting for the monsoon to resume.

''For the last two years, the rain was good, but this year it is bad. We will not survive if the rain does not come,'' said Vittal Durgannavar, a Bailhongal farmer.

''Without the rain everything has dried up. We have spent five to six thousand per acre that is wasted. There is no other work available for us. How do we survive? There is a problem for drinking water,'' said Shivananda Hudakeri, farmer.

Kuselan - Trouble in Karnataka Print E-mail
Tuesday, 22 July 2008
ImageIt looks like Kuselan will not release in Karnataka, causing a loss of Rs 1.50 crore to its distributors Pyramid Saimira. The chauvinist  organization Karnataka Rakshana Vedika (KRV) is determined to block the release of the film scheduled on August 1.

Their grouse is that during the Tamil Film industry's protest fast opposing Karnataka stand on the Hogenekkal project, Rajinikanth had come down heavily on Karnataka. He had warned the state not to politicize the issue.

Rajinikanth in typical style seen in his films had said: "Karnataka should not test our (Tamilnadu) patience by not letting us draw water from our own land." This made Rajini a hero in the land where he became a superstar and a villain in his own home state.

A severe shortage of power in Karnataka has reached alarming proportions. The authorities are resorting to loadshedding in various parts of the state including Bangalore.

In view of the failure of monsoon rains, the authorities had already suspended power generation in a couple of hydro-electric power generating stations in the state. BJP facing internal threat in Karnataka Print E-mail
Friday, 11 July 2008
ImageIt is now sure that some murmurs within the party have begun over the induction of new ministers and the new MLAs into the party. Mr. Yeddyurappa himself appears to be not happy the way it is going and the state party president D.V. Sadananda Gowda has stayed aloof from the party affairs for last one week since the three MLAs from JDs and Congress joined the party.

It has come as a shock to the old timer BJP leaders that those MLAs who have been in other parties have joined the party and have become ministers over night and those old timers who have won from their respective constituencies for more than 4 times have not even been given a board president's job let alone being given ministry.

The seething dissent came into open when many senior party leaders including the party state president D.V. Sadananda Gowda abstained from attending the swearing in ceremony at Raj Bhavan on Thursday. He has not been sent an invitation by the CM's office say circles close to Mr. Gowda. He was at Puttur when the swearing in ceremony took place.
