 While the communally sensitive Kandhmal in Orissa remain tense over the killing of VHP leaders, a somewhat similar situation is emerging in Karnataka.Eighteen churches and prayer halls in and around Mangalore and in two other districts of Udipi and Chikmaglur were attacked on Sunday in incidents of stone-throwing by saffron groups protesting against conversions of Hindus to Christianity. Section 144, which prohibits congregations, has now been imposed in Mangalore. Police had to resort to mild lathicharge in Hampankatta. Those involved in the stone throwing have not been identified yet. |
