Saturday, 21 June 2008
ImageThe Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) have reached an understanding on supporting each other in the biennial elections to four Rajya Sabha and seven Legislative Council seats in Karnataka.

As per the understanding, Congress would contest two Rajya Sabha seats and one L.C seat, while J.D(S) would contest two Legislative Council seats.

From the Congress, former Maharashtra Governor and former Chief Minister of Karnataka, S. M. Krishna and Anil Lad filed their nomination papers June 16.

BJP contestants for Rajya Sabha, Prabhakar Kore and Rama Jois also filed their papers. Former Union Minister, M. V. Rajasekaran (Congress) filed his papers for the Legislative Council Elections.

B.J.P. has fielded candidates, including Home Minister V. S. Acharya, for four Legislative Council elections.

With the J.D(S)-Congress joining hands in the elections, all the candidates are expected to be elected unopposed, not necessitating polls on June 26.
