Fertilizer issue: Karnataka BJP threatens stir Print E-mail
Thursday, 17 July 2008
ImageKarnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Wednesday threatened that his party BJP would hit the streets if the Centre failed to respond the state's need for fertilizer for farmers.

"We will have to take to the streets if the Centre fails to respond", Yeddyurappa told reporters after meeting Governor Rameshwar Thakur to pressure Centre to get adequate fertilizer stocks to the state in the wake of stepped up demand following revival of monsoon activity.
The Chief Minister said he had requested the Governor to intervene to solve the fertilizer crisis.

There were protests in some parts of Karnataka over the fertilizer shortage leading to police firing at Haveli last month which claimed two lives.

Yeddyurappa, who holds the Finance portfolio, briefed the Governor on the budget proposals.
