Former Karnataka minister P.G.R. Sindhia, who led the Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) campaign during the assembly elections in the state, will shortly fly to the United States to campaign for Democratic Party candidate Barack Obama. Sindhia’s decision to campaign for Obama in the US Presidential polls comes barely a week after his expulsion from the BSP by party supremo and UP Chief Minister Mayawati. “I will be addressing meetings of the Indian community in the United States for two weeks during July and August to seek votes for Obama. My itinerary will be finalised in two days”, Sindha said, claiming that his visit to the US had been planned almost seven months ago. Sindhia said that he was a fan of the Democratic Party and he had informed the party in advance that he would campaign for Obama. The former minister, who held important portfolios like Home and Industries earlier, had severed his ties with the Janata Dal (S) after the party formed a coalition government with the BJP. He joined the BSP as its national general secretary and spearheaded the campaign for Mayawati’s party in Karnataka. After the BSP fared badly in the polls, Mayawati summarily sacked Sindhia from the party about a week ago. Sindhia, who is still groping in the dark to ascertain the reasons for his unceremonious exit from the party, said he would not join any political party for the next six months. |
