President Pratibha Patil on Monday cleared the appointment of Justice P.D. Dinakaran, judge of the Madras High Court as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court. The President also cleared the appointment of the senior most judge of the Delhi High Court, Justice T.S. Thakur as Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. According to Law Ministry sources, the warrant of appointment to the two judges is expected to be issued in a day or two. Justice Dinakaran (58) was enrolled as an advocate in August 1976. He practised in the High Court, both in the original and appellate sides, writs-service matters, labour law, civil and criminal matters. He also practised in the State and Central administrative tribunals at Madras. He was appointed additional Central government standing counsel at Madras High Court in 1992 and dealt with cases pertaining to external affairs, customs, central excise, and telephones. He was elevated as a permanent judge of the Madras High Court in December 1996. Justice Tirath Singh Thakur (56) was enrolled as an advocate in April, 1974 and practised in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court in civil, criminal, constitutional, taxation and service matters. He was appointed as an additional judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court in February 1994. He was transferred as a judge of the Karnataka High Court in March 1994 and appointed a permanent judge in September 1995. He was transferred as a judge of the Delhi High Court in July 2004. |
