Karnataka Ministers pledge to donate eyes Print E-mail
Thursday, 28 August 2008
ImageChief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa and all Cabinet Ministers have pledged to donate their eyes after the death.

In a rare gesture, perhaps for the first time in the country, Mr. Yeddyurappa and all other 32 Cabinet ministers signed the forms pledging to donate their eyes after death, before the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

All ministers signed forms pledging to donate their eyes at the Chief Ministers official chamber in the presence of Narayana Netralaya Chairman Bhujanga Shetty.

Dr Shetty told reporter that three lakh blind people have registered seeking eyes in the state. But only 30,000 donors have agreed to donate their eyes.  "Ministers donating their eyes for a public cause would surely send a message and inspire the people across the country to similarly," he added.
