Mangalore bandh total, peaceful Print E-mail

ImageBarring stray incidents of violence and stone pelting, Mangalore bandh observed by Shri Rama Sene was total and peaceful on Tuesday.

In the wee hours, Mohammed, an employee in a beedi firm was assaulted by unidentified miscreants in Kalladka, 27 km from here. BJP corporator Sharat from Kunjathbail was waylaid and assaulted by unidentified miscreants. Six buses, including two government buses plying from Mangalore were stoned by miscreants in Thokkatu and Mangalore.

Vittal gram panchayat secretary Mohammed sustained head injuries when he was hit by  a stray  stone in Vittal.

City police made a dozen preventive arrests on Tuesday.
The arrested also included Prasad Attavar of Shri Rama Sene. City police also rounded up suspects accused of assaulting BJP corporator Sharat.

A day after the Mangalore Diocese disowned ‘New Life Church,’ Bharatiya Krista Okkoota and Karnataka Missions Network urged the police to nab the culprits behind the publication of the controversial booklet, which allegedly triggered unrest.

Karnataka Missions Network president Donald P Menezes and Okkoota president Prashanth said that the culprits, who translated ‘Rujudarshini’ from Telugu to Kannada, and circulated it as ‘Satya Darshini,’ should be immediately arrested.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Dr V S Acharya, accompanied by District In-Charge Minister Krishna Palemar, visited the injured policemen recuperating at the government hospital.
