 A day after Home Minister Shivraj Patil was asked to submit a report on the violence against Christians in Orissa and Karnataka, the minister has started with a directive. He has asked the Karnataka government to be “more careful and restore normalcy and peace there”.Patil told this to state government officials and Governor Rameshwar Thakur during a meeting on Saturday. Patil, who is in Karnataka to take stock of the situation, also met the state’s Home Minister, Law Minister, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police. The Home Ministry has already issued an advisory to the state government asking it to take appropriate measures to check communal violence. The BJP government in Karnataka has maintained that it is doing its best to control the situation and has termed the violence a law and order problem. While the state government has maintained that violence against Christians was the handiwork of miscreants, human right activists have blamed the Bajrang Dal for the violence. |
