Jagadish Shettar, who had emerged as a rallying point for the Reddys, will resign as the Speaker of the state Assembly on Monday to pave the way for his induction into the state cabinet.A cabinet berth for Shettar was a part of the comprise formula evolved by the party high command to end the Yeddyurapapa- Reddy stand off. Shettar will submit his resignation to Deputy Speaker K G Bopaiah on Monday evening and will take oath as the Minister on Tuesday. Though, the names of primary and secondary education minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri and public works department minister C M Udasi are being circulated for the Speaker’s post, it is likely that Bopaiah will continue to be the acting Speaker till the winter session which starts from December 14 gets over. According to sources in the party, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has left the decision on the new speaker to the yet to be constituted coordination committee. However, the stand off between Reddy brothers and the CM continues over the number of MLAs to be inducted into the Cabinet along with Shettar. While Reddys want two more MLAs apart from Shettar, Yeddyurappa is keen on inducting only Shettar on Tuesday. Though, the talks are going on between the two groups, the matter is yet to be resolved, sources say. |
